Doing A Manicure At Home

There are special classes and certified courses that teach you how to do a professional manicure. You would require a license to give a professional manicure, but just in case you want to do it yourself at home, then here are a few guidelines that would help you.

Before you begin a manicure, remove nail polish from the nails if any - for this you will require some cotton and nail polish remover. If you have heavy-duty salon polish on your nails then you will need a stronger remover as these nail polishes have acetone in them. To remove other polishes you could used the normal non-acetone remover. If you are one of those people who dislike using cotton then you could use plastic jars that have nail polish removers for fingers. Most companies like Revlon, Sally Hansen and others have their own brands of nail polish removers.

The next step is to immerse your hands in water for a while, you could either use plain water or add some liquid soap or essential oils to it. Let your fingers soak in the water for a couple of minutes, it is important to let your fingers soak well in order to allow the cuticles to soften, this makes it easier to push them back.

After your fingers have soaked enough, it's time to dry them well, then trim your nails to the desired length and shape them. To smoothen your nails before shaping them you could use a buffer. By using an orange stick you can gently push the cuticles back, pushing the cuticles behind not only gives your nails a clean appearance but also makes your nails look longer. Use these orange sticks to remove and clean any dirt from the surface, the sides and under the nails.

The next thing you must do is to shape your nails. There is no particular way to shape your nails - you can shape them the way you like them. While some people like their nails to be round others like them more squared. The right way to get the desired shape is to use the emery board in one particular direction. If you just rub the emery board back and forth it will cause damage to your nails, using it in one direction will take you a little more time but will do no harm to your nails. Now after you have done this, it's time to use a cream on your hands. There are a variety of moisturizers available in the market to choose from.

Now your fingernails are clean and ready to be polished to the color you like. Just in case you want to polish your toes, do that first - by doing so the paint on your fingernails is less likely to get smudged and look untidy. It is advisable to apply a base coat to the nails before you apply a color. This will give your nails a smooth look and the color will bond well. Before applying the color wait for a couple of minutes for your base coat to dry. Do not put on your polish too thick. The last step is to apply a clean coat that will help avoid chipping and it will add extra shine. To avoid smudging, do not touch or do anything for at least an hour.
